Mahmoud Ahmadinejad offers to be an observer at US presidential election

I say come on over. From the Guardian-

Ahmadinejad has offered himself as an observer in next year's presidential election.

The proposal came in a speech to volunteers with the Basij, a pro-regime militia. He said he was prompted by a belief that Americans would vote against the current administration in a truly free poll.

However, the terms of Ahmadinejad's offer appeared to betray some confusion about the potential candidates.

"If the White House officials allow us to be present as an observer in their presidential election we will see whether people in their country are going to vote for them again or not," he said. The US constitution prevents Bush from seeking a third consecutive term, while no member of his administration is expected to be in the running in next November's poll.

A day of American poll watching may help clear up the confusion. Just don't let it happen here in Palm Beach County Florida, where election confusion seems to reign and I'm not talking about the 2000 election either.

Dr. Taylor at Poliblog writes-

Let him watch us vote. He could sit with some senior citizens in a middle school gymnasium and hand out ballots.

If we are the exemplar of electoral processes that we thing we are, then we should be proud to have our elections observed as example to all. And, if we aren't the exemplar we think they are, it would be nice to have the flaws documented and fixed.

Serious Foreign officials who want to observe democracy in action here should be welcome.

Mahmoud isn't up on the lat... (Below threshold)

Mahmoud isn't up on the latest in Constitutional law - we only prohibited Presidential third terms sixty years ago - but he's never let ignorance get in the way of expressing his opinion. The man has such high self-esteem, you'd think he was educated in an American public school.

But judging by the security headaches he threatened on his NYC visit to the UN, I wouldn't trust him not to leave the precinct and head up to the local Holocaust Museum to start denying. Some old Jewish ladies might cut off his Baitsim, and there could be an international incident. So, I vote "No."
