Hillary Clinton has lost her summer lead over all five top Republican candidates in the latest Zogby Interactive poll, according to Reuters:
Democratic front-runner Hillary Clinton trails five top Republican presidential contenders in general election match-ups, a drop in support from this summer, according to a poll released on Monday.Clinton's top Democratic rivals, Barack Obama and John Edwards, still lead Republicans in hypothetical match-ups ahead of the November 4, 2008, presidential election, the survey by Zogby Interactive showed.
Clinton, a New York senator who has been at the top of the Democratic pack in national polls in the 2008 race, trails Republican candidates Rudy Giuliani, Mitt Romney, Fred Thompson, John McCain and Mike Huckabee by three to five percentage points in the direct matches.
In July, Clinton narrowly led McCain, an Arizona senator, and held a five-point lead over former New York Mayor Giuliani, a six-point lead over former Tennessee Sen. Thompson and a 10-point lead over former Massachusetts Gov. Romney.
She was not matched against the fast-rising Huckabee, a former Arkansas governor, in the July poll.
Read it all at the link above. While I'm skeptical of Zogby in recent years, the results tend to confirm the narrative of developing events in the campaign, with Hillary showing some vulnerability in the Democratic primaries after enjoying a sizable lead for much of the year.
Her rivals have been unwilling to directly confront her ethics, preferring instead to paint her as a traditional politician with the usual ties to corporations and lobbyists without specifying the weakest points. That leaves "electability" as her soft spot, and that they are willing to question.
Meanwhile, seeing her commanding lead, Republicans have been highlighting her potential nomination as a sure-fire way to interest the GOP base, which has been without passion since the scandals of 2006 buried the party's majorities in Congress.
Democrats are hungry to win back the White House, and their doubts about Hillary's viability in a general election provide the opening Barack Obama and John Edwards have been waiting for. If they are going to close the substantial gap between their own support and hers, now is the best chance to do so yet presented in the campaign. Their biggest obstacle may be each other, since they divide most of the "Oh, no! We can't run HILLARY!" vote.

Mark Penn doesn't want us to see this poll by Zogby. He wants us to read the Gallup poll today which still shows the Hildabeast leading Rudy by 5%. Actually, we know this is a snapshot but it does give Pubs more confidence that they can run against Her Highness or even Obama, both empty suits.
