Hillary, Obama tied in NH poll

Hillary Clinton's once-commanding lead in New Hampshire polls may have evaporated, according to WMUR-9:

According to the latest WMUR/CNN poll, Hillary Clinton's 20-point lead has vanished. She now has 31 percent support, with Barack Obama in a statistical tie at 30 percent. John Edwards is third with 16 percent, and Bill Richardson has slipped slightly to 7 percent.

They are guessing Oprah's stop with Obama helped him. On the GOP side, not much has changed:

On the Republican side, Mitt Romney is leading with 32 percent support. Rudy Giuliani and John McCain both have 19 percent. Mike Huckabee has climbed slightly to 9 percent, and Ron Paul has 7 percent.

Hmmm . . . guess Beth Fouhy and Philip Elliott timed this story poorly.

What folks forget....it tak... (Below threshold)
nogo war:

What folks forget....it takes over 50% at the National Conventions. For the first time in our lifetimes ...it is really possible one Party or both...will not have a Candidate with over 50%

It is possible, especially ... (Below threshold)

It is possible, especially on the Republican side, with five candidates drawing between 12%-25% support now. Even the GOP now has fewer winner-take-all primaries, so unless someone breaks out of the pack fairly early, or several of the first tier run out of money, it could even be a likely prospect.

My guess is such an outcome would most favor John McCain, and on the Democratic side if it came to that, Hillary Clinton would have the advantage. Both have been around long enough to have made some friends even among delegates who would be pledged to someone else for the first ballot.

Ah, for conventions to again become worth gavel-to-gavel coverage by the networks, and to be worth watching . . .

And as desperation sets in ... (Below threshold)
COgirl:

And as desperation sets in on the Clinton side, here's this from an AP story:

"A top adviser to Hillary Rodham Clinton's campaign said Wednesday that Democrats should give more thought to Sen. Barack Obama's admissions of illegal drug use before they pick a presidential candidate."

Obama Drug Use

And the hits will keep on a-coming.

And one more thought. . . ... (Below threshold)
COgirl:

And one more thought. . . I seriously doubt that there is ANYONE in either Hillary's or Obama's generation has NOT tried some sort of illegal drug. Does anyone thing that Bill really smoked but didn't inhale while Hillary looked the other way?

Give me a break.
