The things people who want to be President have to do in New Hampshire. From AP-
PORTSMOUTH, N.H. - Democrat Bill Richardson donned a pair of blue shoes Wednesday -- though not suede -- and tried his hand at candlepin bowling, a tougher, New England version of the game. The results were mixed. But he's working on it.We''ll have to wait 1 years at least before knowing if Richardson begins to spin this campaign stop into his once being a member of the PBA. After all he once was drafted by the Kansas City A's baseball team.Huddling with a group of veteran players on lane number eight at the Bowl-O-Rama, the New Mexico governor and former college baseball pitcher gripped the pearly bowling ball like a softball.
*****
Richardson has played regular bowling, where the balls and pins are bigger, but never this game, where it's entirely possible to roll the smaller, 4 1/2-inch diameter ball and not hit anything.
The results? He knocked down three of 10 pins, but scored many smiles and handshakes with voters who said they would give him a closer look.
Don't get me wrong, Richardson is getting my vote in next month's Democratic primary in Florida. With endorsements like the above, I think the NM governor may prefer me to remain silent.

Bill is running for VP not Prez. He is the only one with real experience in govt. for the Dems and yet, is still another socialist-pacifist just like all the rest of 'em. BTW, if Hil picks him, how will he get an office when Bubba interferes with the entire govt. organization??LOL

Richardson has moved far to the left for the campaign. He understood early on that running slightly to the right of Hillary - his natural position - was a ticket to early withdrawal. By doing so, though, while he may have marginally increased his chances and prolonged his campaign, he gave up the advantages which would have made him the Democrats' most formidable nominee. Congressman, cabinet Secretary, UN Ambassador, Governor . . . no one has his resume.
The baseball draft gaffe is a classic example of "resume creep," though. I used to be able to detect that almost psychically: the longer ago the accomplishment, the more its importance on the resume. A guy who was actually the alternate on his high school debate squad, for example, will morph into the Debate Champion several years later (when, he presumes, no one will check, and no one will remember if they do check).
The baseball draft, unfortunately for Bill, is recorded, as we all know. I understand he was actually considered for the draft as a college pitcher, but an injury sank his chances. Over the years, in his own mind, "what might have been" became what was. It would have led to questions, had he won the nomination.
He also would have been asked why, as UN Ambassador, he personally interviewed the lower-level applicant, Monica Lewinsky. I'll wager it was the only interview he personally conducted (below the level of his own staff).
I have no opinion as to his bowling skills.
