Respected conservative columnist and political analyst James P. Pinkerton has joined Mike Huckabee's Presidential campaign, it was announced today. Mike Allen and Jonathan Martin report for The Politico:
James P. Pinkerton, a well-known conservative commentator and veteran of the Reagan and George H.W. Bush administrations, has joined Mike Huckabee's presidential campaign, a campaign official tells Politico.Pinkerton resigned as a Fox News contributor and gave up the column he has written for Newsday and other newspapers since 1993.
"I went from one thing I loved doing to something else that I felt called to do," Pinkerton said.
Read it all at the link above. One of Pinkerton's main duties will be in policy formation. He's an excellent addition to the campaign, a veteran of two Republican Administrations with solid conservative credentials. The report claims he was lured to the campaign by Ed Rollins - if true it is Rollins' best move yet. Bringing Pinkerton in reinforces the perception that the Huckabee campaign is transitioning to the big time of national campaigning.

Hmmm. . . Why does the phrase "don't quit your day job" come to mind?

Pinkerton reported well on the Marc Rich-Clinton administration-Scooter Libby connection for Newsday back in 2001. Scooter mediating his client's presidential pardon for embezzlement even as he, Libby, was moving into Cheney's new office.
I see this as signal to opponents on all sides:
- To Bill&Hill: "You two were bribed by Marc Rich via Denise, so get back or get whacked."
-To recalcitrant neocons: "Lay down or I'll run a "reform" campaign on your asses."
Just a hunch.
