I'll be glad when the South Carolina Primary is over and done Saturday. The commericials, calls, and mailings have multiplied lately, and it will be no little relief to be done with them for a few months.
Most of the candidates are "on air" with commercials, except Giuliani. The award for most prolific use of robo-phone calls and junk mail goes to Ron Paul, though, hands down. This is how he's spending his fundraising bonanza, apparently.
I've received more calls from Dr. Paul and his campaign than all others combined. All of Paul's calls, and all of the others except Hillary Clinton's, were these automated messages. Does this annoying tactic still work in 2008? Only one of Paul's calls has targeted another candidate directly, though - the one I had tonight. It was against . . . Rudy Giuliani, who pulled his staff out of the state a couple of weeks ago, and hasn't been running any advertising at all. Go figure.
In direct mail, Paul is also the undisputed leader - I've had two different direct mail pieces from him on the same day twice, and regularly get his single mailings, too (none of which mention his call for immediate withdrawal from Iraq, btw - the closest they come is mentioning our military is "overextended abroad"). Not quite enough to equal all the others combined, as with the phone calls, but enough to become a running joke in our house.
If you're a Ron Paul donor, you should know your contribution is going straight into the trash or vanishing with the "delete" button. Of course, if you're dumb enough to give Ron Paul money, you probably would only have wasted it yourself anyway.

I am pretty good at turning off the radio during commercials, but I heard a Ron Paul commercial during the Rush Limbaugh show the other day. We are heading into the primary here in Florida so I expect to hear a lot of commercials.
I am not sure what was said, because his supporters have trained me to tune out anything related to him, but at the end Ron Paul said he does approve the message.

And Emperor Hirihito didn't have his throne room on board the Akagi Maru. Hitler hadn't been in the Reich Chancellery in 5 years. You don't spray turds with Lysol.
Terms for the day: "suppression fire", "fire for effect", and "smear the queer".

We haven't gotten too many political calls here in Florida. Those we have received were all from the Giuliani campaign. My wife and mother-in-law won't support Rudy.

True enough, and probably will get worse, I hear the cost of aluminum foil is going up.
bryanD - ignorance ignored!
As an aside, why hasn't this buffoon been banished as has been done at the parent site?

I don't ban anybody unless they 1) spam the comments, 2) attempt to be disruptive of the threads, or 3) are so continually profane as to have no redeeming value.
I find bryanD's comments amusing fairly often, and he includes the occasional literary reference, etc. I won't ban him just for being insane.
Now, if he pisses Maggie off, fuggedabowdit.

Thanks Jim,

As for marcus: he's amusing in his own way. Flitting around, harumphing here and there, posting links to nowhere (if pressed). Making sure that the terms "mmmkay?", "-ya", and "hmmmm?" won't die out in our lifetime...
He's a "prize"!
