Ethics panel says Sen. Larry Craig acted improperly

Anyone besides me wish the Idaho Senator would go quietly away. From AP-

WASHINGTON - The Senate Ethics Committee said Wednesday that Idaho Sen. Larry Craig acted improperly in connection with a men's room sex sting last year and had brought discredit on the Senate.

In a letter to the Republican senator, the ethics panel said Craig's attempt to withdraw his guilty plea after his arrest at a Minneapolis airport was an effort to evade legal consequences of his own actions.

Craig's actions constitute "improper conduct which has reflected discreditably on the Senate," the letter said.

In an e-mailed statement, Craig told The Associated Press he disagreed with the ethics panel's action.

"While I am disappointed and strongly disagree with the conclusions reached by the Senate Ethics Committee, from the outset I have encouraged the committee to act in a timely fashion and they have done so. I will continue to serve the people of Idaho," he said.

The six members of the committee -- three Democrats and three Republicans -- told Craig they believed he "committed the offense to which you pled guilty" and that "you entered your plea knowingly, voluntarily and intelligently."

I don't see Craig as intelligent at all. He pled guilty and some how thought the press wouldn never learn about it. That's an act of stupidity in my book.

Craig is a disgrace, and his failure to resign from the Senate puts the Idaho Senate seat in play this November. You don't believe me? Look at the Florida 16th in 2006. Mark Foley was out of office but he still tarnished the Republican running to replace him. Don't say the same thing can't happen in Idaho if the Democrats can find a suitable candidate.

There a kind of intelligence involved. (Certainly more intelligence than the Senate Republican caucus showed! to wit:) Arlen Specter was the only one of Craig's colleages who showed even a modicum of friendship upon Craig's return from The Incident.

That very day Specter (being Specter!) accepted an offer from McNeil Newshour to appear on a segment concerning the Craig affair to suggest Larry Craig stay put.

I imagine this was hatched between Craig and Specter as they had one whole side of the cafeteria to themselves.

That reminds my sticky brain of a time bomb set to go off in the GOP's face WHICH BUSH HIMSELF HAD PLANTED.

Was it 2004? US Senate race in Illinois. Ryan, the GOP candidate got busted (with his wife) over some sexual peccadilloes. That should have left the #2 GOP runner-up to face the Dems: Obersheim(?). BUT! Obersheim was not open-borders enough in his sentiments (being a perfect candidate with famous Illinois dairy business, no matter!), so the GOP imported Alan Keyes from MD to carpetbag. Long-short: Keyes got creamed and the seat went to.....Barak Obama!

Is Craig still stripped of ... (Below threshold)

Is Craig still stripped of his committee assignments?

What's the penalty here? Where is this thing headed?

While I find the Craig saga... (Below threshold)

While I find the Craig saga endlessly amusing, especially when I look at things like this, I think the entire thing was bullshit. What was his crime? Why in the world would proposing sex with another adult be a criminal act? Can we be arrested for hitting on someone in a bar?

It's ludicrous.

Aye!

Well, if Arepublican and other opposition researchers hadn't been banned from Wizbang we might have all gained some insight into such messy but inconsequential details by the easy threshing method.

In Content's place we have Jay Tea's latest installment of homoerotica in a maritime setting starring Rip Taylor and Charles Nelson Reilly and a boatload of twinks. A lot of gabbing and standing and bumping around (but wildwillie gives it 4 stars).

Usually your jpeg links Suck, but this one Sucks Good! I read the pic from right to left. Trent's gullet is the key! Pelican, pelican!

"Why in the world would proposing sex with another adult be a criminal act?"

Technically correct, but The Act is usually consummated on-site as a form of "danger f***ing" in lieu of a man-date at The Green Onion. Even the nearest parking lot is a bit awkward if it demands more than 50 steps to arrival. These people are wired. The next rung on the thrill ladder is auto-asphyxia.
