Tom Ridge on McCain's Veep short list?

Michael Goldfarb of The Blog of The Weekly Standard is hearing it (full post at the preceding link).

I have serious doubts about this. While Ridge was a popular Governor of a key "light blue" state in recent elections, he left office in 2001 - and Pennsylvania elections have been increasingly dominated by Democrats ever since. As Secretary of Homeland Security, Ridge's performance received mixed reviews. He is not known as a stalwart of the conservative movement, the segment of the Republican Party McCain needs to energize for the general election.

I'm betting on Tim Pawlenty, the Governor of Minnesota. He is popular among conservatives, has governed fairly effectively in a blue state with a Democratic legislature, and endorsed McCain early when his campaign wasn't going so well.

Yes but where did Goldfarb ... (Below threshold)

Yes but where did Goldfarb get his information from?

In all seriousness, Ridge is a person to consider. That's he's on a list doesn't mean anything.

Bill

There's one and only one BE... (Below threshold)
Ted:

There's one and only one BEST VEEP pick for McCain and that is Alaska Governor Sarah Palin. If the McCain people are on top of things, Gov. Palin will be picked!

Michael Steele perhaps?... (Below threshold)
COgirl:

Michael Steele perhaps?
