The New York City Mayor makes it official.
NEW YORK - Mayor Michael Bloomberg has squashed the notion of running for president this year, declaring that he will not seek the White House but might put his support behind another candidate who embraces bipartisan governing.I never took Bloomberg running as a third party candidate seriously. The speculation was media driven, mostly the work of AP and its reporter Sara Kugler. Sara writing an article over 900 words in length on a bachelor becoming President. Bloomberg wasn't even running and faced impossible odds, but Sara has to talk about Bloomberg the bachelor.Apparently ending a dance of presidential speculation that began more than two years ago, the 66-year-old billionaire businessman said in an op-ed piece in Thursday's New York Times that he will not launch his own bid but will work to "steer the national conversation away from partisanship and toward unity; away from ideology and toward common sense; away from sound bites and toward substance."
Bloomberg aides and associates had been assembling the framework for an independent campaign, and if he had decided to run, a $1 billion operation would have been ready to go. Instead, Bloomberg hinted that he may lend his wealth and weight to someone else.
Now that Bloomberg is out of the race, I hope AP gives Sara honest work. Either that or she'll start writing puff pieces in preparation for 2012.

Oh the humanity. Bloomies is not running! The Republic must be quaking. And now we only have Nader to take some progressive-lefties-liberals away from the new DNC Messiah. I may not sleep now that Mike is not running. It would have helped because he would have damaged the Dems. Anything that damages the Dems is good for the Republic. May Ralphie be as destructive as Bloomie to the dreams and rot of the liberal Dems with our Savior leading them to glory.
