MEIWA, Gunma -- Meiwa Mayor Kenichi Inomata and seven members of the town's municipal assembly have sued a woman also serving on the chamber, saying she defamed them by association when pressing charges of indecent assault against yet another of the town's elected members.The contentiousness of this town's elected officials reminds me of the Palm Beach County Commission. At least no breast fondling has happened down here. Instead half the Commissioners are under investigation by the feds.(Our local prosecutor is a total waste)Inomata and the assembly members have filed a lawsuit at the Ota Branch of the Maebashi District Court accusing the 52-year-old woman serving in the Meiwa Municipal Assembly of defaming them by implying they were involved in a sex assault on her.

The lawsuit says that when the woman gave a news conference on Oct. 2 last year, she said she was sexually harassed by a man belonging to the municipal assembly and screamed out loud but all the other assembly members around at the time pretended as though nothing had happened and nobody spoke out. She said it caused a loss of social respect for her as an elected member.
The plaintiffs are seeking a newspaper apology from the woman and payment of 100,000 yen each in compensation.
The woman has filed a criminal complaint accusing a 49-year-old man also serving on the Meiwa Municipal Assembly of sexual harassment after he allegedly fondled her breast.
