If elected, Choi Hyun-suk, would be the first openly gay female to be elected to parliament. From Mysinchew-
SEOUL, SOUTH KOREA: South Korea's first openly lesbian politician will run for a parliamentary seat in the April general polls.Women coming out as gay after years of marriage is not uncommon. Because of societal or family pressures or even self-denial, some gay men and women marry."I want to carry out political activities not for 1 per cent of the citizens but 100 per cent," said Choi Hyun-suk, 51. Choi will run on the ticket of the New Progressive Party, which recently split from the Democratic Labour Party.
"There are people who ask if a divorced lesbian is qualified to become a lawmaker. But actually, a minority person who is in a difficult situation can best understand and carry out true policies for the majority."
Choi announced her sexual orientation after getting divorced in 2004. She served as the head of the DLP's sexual minority committee until recently.
Honestly I've never cared what a elected official does in bed as long as it is with a living adult human. As I did in the case of this similar Japanese politician, I wish Ms. Choi good luck.
