Barack Obama is part of the brotherhood of Jeep drivers across the U.S., and was known for driving himself to many of his early campaign events in his own Jeep. While fellow Jeep drivers hardly have same brotherhood as motorcyclists...

i was very disappointed in the way he ran (or did not run) his campaign. there were some things that he did that were awesome: blogging, actually putting out position papers that HE wrote that were thoughtful and had ideas on solutions, not putting up with the media and debate BS, not jumping into the race early. it's too bad he ran his campaign with no energy.
i was ready to be a delegate for him however far he went. he was the first candidate that i ever donated money to. i think he would have made a better president than any of the 3 remaining candidates. but he was a lousy campaigner.
sigh...what might have been.

Fred did put forth more substantive position papers than any other candidate in either party, but he was determined to rewrite the rules of campaigning, and it sunk him before he started. In the spring of 2007, there was a groundswell of support for him among Republicans unexcited by the field. Had he jumped in the race then, by Memorial Day, he was already ahead in the polls nationally and could have raised some serious money to compete in the early states.
Instead, he insisted on doing it his way, and waited until Labor Day to declare. By then, the wave of enthusiasm had died, with many early supporters just giving up on the idea he would ever get in, and going to other campaigns. In contrast, Barack Obama grabbed the boomlet for his candidacy in the early months of last year and joined the race immediately, and prospered.
Fred ended up just being one more illustration of the old admonition, "Keep your day job."

Lets get a couple of things straight here;
Fred didn't "fail" us, we failed him and ourselves. In both the near and distant future we will see his principles, values and detailed plans be proven absolutely correct in every way.
AND the Associated Press, where this story and text came from, was instrumental in swaying public opinion against Fred yet, had the public lifted a single finder to find out who he was on their own they would have learned what a fantastic president he would have made;
