Remember the '80s show, Mystery Science Theatre 3000? The premise was a guy and some robots stuck in space, with the only entertainment for years and years being an archive of movies, supplied by an evil scientist to see how long it took before they went nuts.
Not just any movies, though: the worst movies ever made. No, really - they picked the pits, including cheesy science fiction (their favorite), cheap foreign flicks with horrible dubbing, the worst of bad horror films, etc. The fellows amused themselves - and the viewer - by offering their own running commentary and dialog, rather than just watching. Sort of like your average movie audience today . . . except their comments were often funny, and got even funnier if you had another beer.
It turns out the geniuses behind that show didn't really go into space at all (and - get this: the robots were actually puppets - more on that later). They're still here, alive and well, and overdubbing political ads here. A couple of samples:
