Can the Republicans prevent Frank Lautenberg's re-election? From The Crypt-
Biotech executive John Crowley is expected to enter the New Jersey Senate race against Democratic Sen. Frank Lautenberg, according to a source familiar with his thinking. It would give Republicans a candidate with a compelling personal narrative who also has deep pockets to self-finance a campaign. At least the GOP found someone to run not like in Arkansas. I don't give Crowley much of a chance here. Just expect a nasty campaign with lots of money spent on it.His pending announcement, which could come as soon as this weekend, will set up a high-profile election year in the Garden State, where Lautenberg is already facing a primary challenge from Democratic Rep. Robert Andrews.
But Crowley has the potential to capture as much of the media spotlight as Lautenberg's newfound primary contest.
Over the past week, Crowley has been courted to run by prominent Republicans, including the party's presidential nominee, Arizona Sen. John McCain. The chairman of the National Republican Senatorial Committee, Nevada Sen. John Ensign, also called him several times this week to encourage him to run.
Crowley initially announced he would not be running, but the full-court press of persuasion helped him change his mind.

The problem is we're talking about NJ. If a Republican is caught naked in a schoolyard all he has to do is declare himself a Democrat and he'll be forgiven.
I remember playing in a band at a pep rally of sorts for Rush Holt and Lautenberg stumbled up on the stage and rambled incoherently. That was 10 years ago and I doubt he's any more lucid.
NJ could do better but then again there's that prejudice against Republicans.

NJ is one of the most Dem states in the Union. The Dems always change the election rules if their nominee is threatened by defeat via the polls. No Pub really has a chance there though the old RINO, Whitman might. This poor guy, Crowley will get slaughtered as the N.Jersey bought votes pile in. Walking round money is tough in those parts. Only South Jersey has any Pub voters which can not be bribed! Thought their property taxes are so high and other taxes punish the voters, they , like zombies, just keep voting for the Depends Party.
