Lauderdale Lakes Florida Mayor says "I'm very much alive"

What did Mark Twain once say? The reports of my death have been greatly exaggerated? Now read about Samuel Brown.

Mayor Samuel Brown has a news flash for his colleagues and constituents: He's not dead.

At a televised commission meeting Tuesday night, the 86-year-old mayor said many residents have phoned him recently to ask: "Are you dead?"

"I'm very much alive," he said he replied. Brown joked maybe there was "an undercurrent to get rid of me."

He suspects the rumors started because he decided not to seek re-election after a decade in office.

His deadline to qualify was noon Tuesday. At the meeting, residents and commissioners gave him a standing ovation.

On Wednesday, he said his age and minor health concerns led him to retire.

I'm glad the little misunderstanding is cleared up. Enjoy your retirement Mayor Brown.

One day, maybe soon, we won... (Below threshold)
Tracy:

One day, maybe soon, we won't know or care if one politician is dead, because we won't have any politicians.
