Another long-time GOP seat bites the dust.
STEVENSVILLE, Md. - Democrat Frank Kratovil is accepting victory one week after Election Day in a very tight U.S. House race in Maryland. At least one blogger saw Wayne Gilchrest's primary loss as good news or a positive sign. Gilchrest wasn't liked by conservatives because of his views on Iraq. They got their wish in February, but the seat goes to the Democrats in the general election. That's good news for the GOP. NOT!The seat was held for 18 years by Republican Wayne Gilchrest until he was knocked out in the GOP primary this year.
Kratovil accepted victory after GOP candidate Andy Harris called him Tuesday morning to concede.
The Associated Press called the close race late last week for Kratovil, who waited for about 4,800 provisional ballots to be counted Monday.
At the end of Election Day, Kratovil was up by 915 votes. That lead grew to a little more than 2,000 votes after the first group of absentee ballots were counted Friday. Provisional ballots tallied Monday added more than 150 votes to Kratovil's total.

Gilchrest proved himself exactly what we believed about him for a long time -- that he was a Democrat in disguise. It's a Conservative district (thanks to the ultra-Dem MD legislature corralling the bulk of Republicans into the 1st and Roscoe Bartlett's 6th districts) and he was too liberal for it. When he got soundly beaten in the primary, he stopped hiding his treachery and fully became the Democrat we knew he always was, and no surprise when he went all out to make sure his supporters voted Democrat in November.
With another loony vote for the PelosiReid Circus, Kratovil can enjoy his single term before he gets voted out in 2010 and replaced by a real Republican.

One party rule in Maryland has given us budget deficiets, cronyism like no other, scalding business climates, high taxes...
Is it any wonder under Democrat rule that Maryland is one of the highest taxed states and 7th most dangerous to live in?
You would think under Democrat rule and the rampant liberalism Maryland would be Utopia!
