Nebraska Senator Mike Johanns has surgery

He is having part of one lung removed. From AP-

The office of Nebraska Sen. Mike Johanns says the senator is having surgery on his left lung following the discovery of a spot.

Spokeswoman Sarah Pompei (POM-pay) said the senator was having the surgery Tuesday at Virginia Hospital Center in Arlington, Va., and called it a "cautionary step."

She says doctors found the spot during a test on Nov. 25 that followed up a routine physical.

Pompei says the surgeon might have to remove the lower lobe of Johanns' left lung. She says tests will be conducted to check for cancer.

The Republican, who is in his first term replacing Sen. Chuck Hagel, is expected back in his office by March 16.

My mother had similar surgery in 1982. She died of lung cancer less than three years later. Get well Senator.
